Among the 3,000 acres of land, children ages 7-16 get the opportunity to enjoy nature and the outdoors, grow life skills, and develop friendships. Camp Lonehollow is one of the top summer camps in Texas and has earned that title by always striving to be better and by fully living up to their philosophy of Growth, Empower, Adventure, and Resilience.
Growth is teaching valuable life skills in the cabins and in activities to help prepare campers to be "geared to live". Empower is the act of taking initiative to create their own unique life experience and empowering others to do the same. Adventure is the creative, innovative, and exciting atmosphere created by the full-time staff, counselors, and campers. Resilience is believing in the ability to build inner strength, grit, and determination campers can overcome challenges. |
Job DescriptionThere are three main components to being a camp counselor: cabin life, teaching classes, and being a role model.
Cabin life - as a counselor you live in a cabin with 12-25 kids with at least 1-2 other counselors. You help the kids wake up, have meals with the kids, and help them get to bed. During the day, you teach in many classes during the day with your specific department. You follow curriculum developed by the full time staff. You follow the same schedule throughout the day as the campers and have one period off each day. Lastly, as a counselor you are expected to act as though a camper is always listening, watching, and learning no matter what you are doing, where you are at, or what you're saying. |
Position QualificationsBecause this is a children's summer camp, there are a few qualifications and requirements that must be met before getting the job. The safety of the children is the most important thing so therefore, some qualifications needed to work at Camp Lonehollow include, but are not limited to: pre-training videos, completing a DISC profile, and passing the Praesidium courses.

AchievementsInterning with Camp Lonehollow, I learned a lot about myself and was able to grow in ways I didn't know I could. Because I had never been to camp, I hadn't experienced homesickness. When I got my first homesick camper I didn't know what to do at first. After talking to some older counselors and full-time staff, I was able to give the camper the comfort they needed.

BenefitsThere are countless opportunities that go hand in hand with interning at Camp Lonehollow. As an intern, you receive pay, room and board, three meals a day, five classes of recreation activities a day, and networking opportunities with campers parents.
